BC Rockies - Kootenay

The beautiful Kootenay region, also known as "the Kootenays" is made up of the south eastern part of British Columbia. It's name comes from the Kootenay River, a river that was named for the Ktunaxa (Kootenai or Kutenai) First Nation.

The Kootenays were originally settled by miners and smelter workers. The area has however grown significantly, encompassing a tourist economy and fruit growing, mainly in the Creston Valley region. It also had many commercial centers, cities and towns, including Trail, Nelson, Cranbrook, Kimberley, Fernie, Castlegar, Rossland, and Creston.

Situated in the south east of BC, the Kootenay region offers many breathtaking mountain views, pristine lakes, rivers and natural wonders to enjoy. It's people are hospitable and welcoming. There are many lodging options for your Kootenay/BC Rockies vacation, including cottages, bed and breakfasts, cabins, lodges and rental vacation homes.
